How to Treat the Body after Death

Written for BBC Radio 4 Sunday

I was interested to hear the discussion about Aquamation and the thoughts on how the body should be treated after death.

Here at the Erasmus Foundation, we believe in life after death in that our spirit leaves the body at the end of our life and returns Home, where we come from. Over a very long period of time, we take many lives so our spirit can learn and experience different things, gaining spiritual strength, knowledge and perhaps a little wisdom through the tests and challenges along the way. Our spirit has eternal life, so the memories within the mind, our spirit, are retained forever. The value is therefore within the mind, not the body.

The body is simply a ‘vehicle’ designed to take us through this particular life. At the end of the life, the body, whilst not to be disrespected, has served its purpose and so it is for people to choose how they take care of the body. The simplest way, in my view, would be for cremation of some kind, leaving the memory of the one who has gone in the minds of those who knew them.
