Dear Professor Martin
We have been reading your concerns about further obstacles down the road with the coronavirus mutations and how the potential of a new variant could affect many more people than has been made clear by our politicians, and we agree with you that there is far worse to come, and that it could show itself quite soon in this country, as well as around the world.
We in the Erasmus Foundation have been following developments closely since early last year and we have communicated with some government committees and individuals about this pandemic. We believe that there is an imbalance in our world caused by an imbalance in human beings through incorrect behaviour over a period of time. So the root of this pandemic lies, we believe, with mankind enabling the right conditions through pollution for the virus to grow, and it is questions about what we as humans have done and are doing right now that need addressing so that changes can be made, perhaps quite drastic changes, by all of us. For example, how we care for and feed our animals and how we process our meat; how we pollute our natural world in all habitats which has no doubt contributed to the pandemic, to climate change disasters, and to ill health. Our processed food is also a cause for concern and particularly, we believe, with meat products; and processed food makes up quite a high percentage of some people's diets so the knock on result is poor health generally and specifically.
So, in writing this email to you we wanted to share your concerns and to ask if you could encourage questions within government about the root of the pandemic, about the conditions that are in place to favour such a strong, mutating virus, and which have been brought about by people's behaviour right across the world.
